BOILED IN OIL
This punishment was reserved for those who committed a murder by poisoning. In relation to Hamlet, Claudius murders Old Hamlet by pouring poison in his ear. If Claudius did not wear the crown and the public found out he has committed this crime, he would’ve been boiled in oil right away. This was a horrible way to die because you are boiled alive feeling all the burns and pain until death. The victim would be held above a large cauldron by rope or chains hanging by either arms or feet depending on severity of the crime. The victim was slowly lowered into the cauldron that contained oil over top of an open flame, resulting in death.
If the victim did not murder by the method of poisoning, then the following execution punishment took place.
